Tir na nOg have been described as Alt Folk, Prog Folk, Psych Folk, and even Space Folk!. But the duo, formed by Leo O'Kelly & Sonny Condell in 1970, transcends all these categories. What is not in doubt is that they are two of the most original and influential songwriters and performers Ireland has ever produced. After a long absence they are once again touring in the UK.
They were signed to Chrysalis Records in May '70 within days of arriving in London, suitcases and guitars in hand! Tir na nOg recorded three timeless albums for the label, recently re-issued by Cherry Red/Esoteric Records. John Peel championed the duo from the start, recording many Peel Sessions with them. They toured with bands as disparate as Jethro Tull, Procol Harum, The Who, Roxy Music and Steeleye Span in the 70s, as well as headlining their own theatre, college and club gigs, garnering a large cult following, which to this day still grows.
The duo's reputation for entrancing audiences with their magical live performances, whether festival or club, goes before them, resulting in sell-out shows during 2012. Each show is distinctive – different songs find their ways into different set lists! The ‘Live at Sirius’ album captures the intimacy and exhilaration of just one of these performances.

Anyway just wanted to follow Patrick T's comments. Was at both Nuneaton and Kitchen garden gigs. You know it doesn't matter how many gigs you go to or how often you will never see two gigs the same. Unique and Timeless. Thanks Sonny & Loe, hope to see you soon!!
Saw Sonny and Leo in Nuneaton last night. The music was fantastic as ever. Got confused talking about Clifden but soon realized I was talking about Co Galway. The music is ageless. Good luck with the tour .

Really enjoyable evening yesterday at Nollias 11with Tir na nOg and Julie Feeney.....made the getting of a parking ticket a little easier to bear ! Great to hear a brand new song, with the title, I think, of 'Pulling birds at funerals'. Was sure I'd misheard the title at first. Looking forward to hearing it on their new 'LP' when it's finished.
.....Going to have a beer now and place it on one of my new Tir na nOg coasters, won in yesterday's Irish sweepstake,
Thanks Sonny and Leo

Looking forward to your gig in the Mermaid Arts Centre Bray on June 30th!
The Thick as a Brick gig at Leeds Uni and various concerts at Reading are a dim and distant memory - kept alive by intermittent visits to Tear and a Smile. The magic were still there on Saturday at the Junction but much more as well. Ireland just turns out great musicians and great guitar sounds.
Ditto re Mike Scott's comment re the Cambridge and London shows. These two bards create magical atmospheres that take you on interior adventures, sometimes modern, sometimes mythological, but always very much involved with being awake to what's inside and around you. Nature and musical lyricism merge to create a positively cinematic auditory experience that is at once both intimate and expansive, full of memory, warmth and good humour of the gentle kind - punctuated by fear, melancholy and anger from the hidden darknesses of the soul. One senses their impulse to bring human warmth into a room - a little shyly at times, boldly at others. They take their time, rebelliously, courageously sensing a space and playing songs they feel like playing in the moment. I've always thought my response was just me, but interestingly, at both shows, the verdict of people who had never heard of Tir na n'Og before was: 'awesome' , 'fantastic', 'very moving' and 'amazing'. For me, they're a gift from Ireland and I thank them.
Caught the gig in Birmingham last night. This is sensational stuff! Made me so happy. Think I've been waiting fo this music for a long time. Thanks guys!
Thought we'd try a comments box and see how it goes......
